Binocular Loupe 3.5X Magnifying Glasses
« on: March 11, 2024, 05:48:12 am »
I was recently at the dentist and he had some 45 degree Binocular Loupe with lighting. I ask him about them and he told me they were great from Q-optics and cost about $3k! I thought they would help for most soldering projects, but cost more than a good stereo scope setup. So I went cheap and got these for $41. The working distance seams OK to me, YMMV.

I haven't tested them for soldering yet, but did try them out looking a various things. I think they would work well for projects your naked eye struggles with, but not so small it requires a stereo microscope. I have a low end stereo scope but it working distance is very close. Not made for electronic work.

I surprised I haven't heard about using something like this before.

I haven't tried those, I think that the dentist/surgeon professional ones have a huge working distances ( https://www.theloupestore.co.uk/Surgical-Loupes/ )

The Donegan Optivisors are great too as they fit over glasses and you can get a set of different magnification lenses.
Be aware that the higher the magnification the shorter the working distance.

Original US Donegan Brand 1 lens ( They offer plastic or glass )

or Chinese with all 4 lenses ( Glass I think )

Those have shorter working distances. I like to keep further away from the fumes. What I like about these is 3.5x and a working distance of about 40cm. Those others at that mag would be 17cm.
