« on: December 17, 2011, 07:58:46 pm »
Hello,

here are some pictures of a Fluke 233 multimeter.
All pictures are also available in a higher resolution (4000*3000 pixels), please feel free to ask.

Thanks for the pictures!
I wonder if the shielding around the big capacitor and the resistor network is for GSM radiation  ;D

Is it just me but the range switch looks like not Fluke quality standard ?
Oh, the joy of sending various electronics to silicon heaven

yes, looks a little bit flimsy compared to the switch in the 28x  [https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3941.0]

For all it's faults though, the range switch feels good. I suspect there are just fewer traces because a lot of the switching is done electronically rather than mechanically.

Did Fluke ever make a comment on the ridiculous consumption when the 233 is off?

The only reason to open up a Fluke will be just for checking the PCB revision.  ;D

Thanks Richard, I did save this page for off line use,
I do safe-keep allot of technical material in my hard drives.  ;)

(The current file size is very good)

They did indeed. I complained about it on the Element-14 forums and a Fluke representative popped up and immediately went on the defensive. He said it was a function of how the remote system operated, and their consumer research had found out that users wanted it that way. Now, I would like to know what questions they asked, because I can't imagine they asked "Do you mind if your meter eats a set of batteries every few weeks". It was clear from his response that they weren't interested.

So far as I can see, the units chat several times a second, and if communication is lost the RF turns on. Running the units once a second and at reduced output wouldn't have been difficult.

The 233 is made in China isn't it? The switch looks very similar to the range switch on the cheap Chinese-made Fluke 15B and 17B.
See the picture of my 17B below:

Oh, my mistake then. I must have been thinking of some of the other newer models, maybe the electricians 117 etc.
