Connector for DIY Mitutoyo digimatic cable?
« on: March 02, 2017, 09:40:16 pm »
Is there some connector that would fit for a Mitutoyo 'digimatic' SPC cable?

The pin pitch seems to be 1.6 mm. Connector is about 10 mm wide, and 4 mm high.

Googling around the best DIY attempt I found was some 3D-printed shell, but I still wonder if there is some ready-made connector available via Digikey/Mouser/etc. that could be used for that (as the official Mitutoyo cable has a ridiculous price for its value)

Something like this? https://www.bourns.com/pdfs/70AAM.pdf The pitch is wrong, but maybe you can find similar products to that. The keywords are "spring contact connector".

Thanks, at least having a proper name for the type of connector definitely would help with the search.

I've been googling for a cheap cable or connector too.
Did anyone ever find a suitable connector?

There are lots of those cables on ebay for as little as $40.00. However, it looks like the cable alone is not all you need. There's also another little box that goes with the cable that converts the caliper data to keystrokes. I assume you can avoid that if you can figure out the raw data format. There is a complete setup with cable and box on ebay for $70.00 (Not made by Mitutoyo, though).
That's not right - It's not even wrong - W. Pauli

Thanks, I was intending on making a device that acts as a USB keyboard, press a button and it reads the data from the calliper and simply outputs the keypresses for the corresponding digits. The protocol is well defined and available, I didn't want to spend $40 on the cable as all I really need is the connector. So, if anyone knows what that connector is and where I may be able to find one, that would be awesome :)
