Are they compatible? I saw they sell various products for aircraft that you can chromate aluminum with, prior to painting.

However, if this is done, should self etching primer be used, or regular primer? Does the etching nature of self etching primer degrade the conversion coating?

I would think the etching primer would remove the dichromate coating. Stick to one or the other. You can also etch aluminum pretty well using phosphoric acid "clean and etch" type solutions.

I was thinking of the Alodine coating.
