DS1052E
« on: November 22, 2011, 02:18:24 am »
I am considering a new one but I wanted to make sure they can still be soft-flashed to the next higher model.  If not I will save a bit more for the 1102 outright since eBay is nuts on the price for the 1052 used.

First post so I hope I didn't break some rule lol!

Dear BigSicilian:

--Please feel free to post any questions you may have on this forum. More than likely you will find someone who can help you. The person who responded to you in such a rude and hostile manner is indeed a member of the forum, but other that that he has no special standing.

--Fudd is know to bear grudges, and when he gets weally weally angwee he posts his screeds in extremely large fonts. He has even managed to get some of his comments deleted, an achievement on this forum. If you hang around long enough you will get acquainted with the other two Sensei of the TrollHouse Dojo; Frick and Frack. Pay none of them any mind.

--In any case welcome to the EEVBlog. I cannot answer your question, but I am pretty sure that someone else can. Dave has done a video or two on it and, as Fudd indicated there are numerous posts on the Rigol DS1052E, though why he would expect someone making his first post to know this is beyond me.

--I for one would be glad to hear anything you or anyone else (make that nearly anyone else) has to say about one of the most popular scopes in the world.

Hello Sicilian; and welcome.

Searching the forum, as sggested, someone can find workarounds not only for the current firmware revision (2.05) but for the upcoming one (2.06) as well! There can also be found not only schematics of the specific device but even parts of its firmware disassembled! Be warned, though: This class of test instruments might give their owners a few surprises...

Awesome.  Looks like I will take advantage of a little black Friday magic here in the states and get the 1052 and flash it.  Thanks!

If or when you do, let us know how it went.  I haven't done mine yet.  Some people have had some bad luck and ended up bricking their scope, though not many people have reported this.  I believe this is the main guide https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=553.0  One useful tip regarding the forum is that you can be notified of replies to threads - there is a button on the top right hand side.
