Ebay-240v Light Dimmer (safe?)
« on: May 02, 2015, 09:20:44 am »
Hey,

I've been looking around the internet for some IR 240v light dimmers and I came across cheap ones off ebay:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dimmable-IR-remote-LED-Light-Dimmer-Brightness-Controller-AC240V-/140521706850?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item20b7bf1562

Is this dimmer safe?

Personally I don't really think it is safe because it has no like safety certification or anything.

I would get an electrician to install it but chances are I wont get the dimmer unless I knows its safe.

All I want to know if you guys think its safe?

Thanks,
Aidan

"Safety certifiation" doesn't make something "safe".  And lack of official safety certification doesn't make something "un-safe".

If you are installing this is a public place (or somewhere you don't live like a rental property, etc.), or if you are worried about your fire insurance, then don't buy dirt-cheap goods from China on Ebay.  And perhaps in your country licensed electricians are prohibited from intalling non-certified components.

Would I install one of those in my house?  Probably.  It looks rather well designed and assembled and I am a DIY geek.
