eInk Tablet/Reader recommendation for datasheets and PDFs?
« on: December 05, 2023, 03:58:03 am »
Could anyone recommend an eInk reader that you have used for datasheets, manuals and general study?

Ideally I'd like one that is easy to quickly navigate/scroll/zoom around like flicking through a real book, bookmarks etc. Writing notes on datasheets would be nice too.

A reasonable price would be a positive.
Would love to meet up with people in the Canberra/Queanbeyan region who are keen to learn together.

None of them I've tried are particularly fast to navigate and jump around like that. Not horrible, but that's not what they excel at, either -- they're much better for more linear reading a page at a time.

I have a remarkable and love it for notetaking and reading, but wouldn't use it as a quick reference source like that. The boox ones seem a little more fluid/fast for navigation, though still not sure they'd be my first choice. I played with one of the new kindle ones for a minute and felt similar to the boox, but more locked into the amazon ecosystem, of course.

Thanks, abeyer. I'll see what options are around in 12 months.

I have a boox and I like it. But epaper has major limitations that aren't going away anytime soon. So either get one and be happy with the tradeoffs or don't. But waiting 12 months won't help. epaper has made small improvements over time but nothing like what happened with LCDs.

I don't mind the limitations of e-paper, that's not a bother, but the interface and jumping around quick would be nice. These are purely UX nice-to-haves and I'm sure usability will improve over the next year or two.
