While looking for something else I came across this site:
http://www.cryptomuseum.com/crypto/gretag/720/index.htm (http://www.cryptomuseum.com/crypto/gretag/720/index.htm)
There are various other machines there, not all of them with internal pics of guts, but very interesting all the same. On this particular device I found the anti-tamper system very interesting:

Module cover detail: http://www.cryptomuseum.com/crypto/gretag/720/img/301821/020/full.jpg (http://www.cryptomuseum.com/crypto/gretag/720/img/301821/020/full.jpg)
(removal or destruction of the cover would result in detection and anti tamper action)
There's also a photosensor. They took it seriously.
Enjoy,
David

Soviet tech is always somewhat different :)

I just stumbled upon it by chance - see first post. If you are interested in tamper resistance stuff, there's a fair amount of teardowns on the internets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFLdiK2-Uh0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFLdiK2-Uh0)

That looks awesome! Expensive, specialized electronics is always fun to teardown!

I would be interested in how the random noise generator worked on the gretacoder 720. Built with 2 video amplifiers. Time to tinker, but need to research it first.
