Energy-saving lamb teardown
« on: March 09, 2013, 07:52:23 pm »
Ok, sorry if this is ''stupid'' thread but i figured maybe it would be interesting to share this, and perhaps start some conversation
So, my eco-lamb, E14 philips/8w decided to die, it blinked couple of times before t-time. Normal people would have just thrown it away, normal carbage bin or in correct disposal center. But, because i'm far too curious, i decided to open it to see if there's small peaople in there rubbing cat with wool socks.
i did'nt take any measurements, i'm not that qualified with 'scope yet, better learn in safe way, than to blow my scope....but that daves grounding tutorial about scope helped, so i know where not to plug my scope.
ps. sorry about my fingers, i know they are not best looking but, bad habit...

Lamp, just saying.......

Pretty standard CFL circuit, did not do the normal thing that they do and catch fire, but blew it's internal fuse when the lamp went EOL.

Very stupid to put the complex, high precision and high technology electronics right next to the hottest part of the lamp, but that is CFL tech for you. Years ago you got a CFL lamp where you just could replace the lamp only when it died, and those are still going strong by me, on 24/7 for nearly two decades now, and have only needed lamp changes every 2-3 years in that time. Only problem with them was the cost ( initial cost was high) and that they are somewhat larger than a regular incandescent lamp, so would not fit all fixtures.

oops, i was wondering is it lamb or lamp, thanks for informing :). i'm pretty new to electronics, so any piece of information is welcome, but that is not the purpose i posted this, just if someone else has wondered what's inside.

Here you go a Lamb tear down.

And Fezder please don't take offense to us having some fun with the word play. We know English is not your first language. Even if it is everyone makes typos. So when it happens to anyone it is fair game for some off topic fun. But lets get back on topic now.

lambs should only be torn down to roast them over a barbeque. throw on some spices and tzatzike. serve with pita bread and greek salad.
