Fluke TL40 or (Pomona 5953) vs. probemaster
« on: January 03, 2022, 09:17:58 pm »
I keep reading about how great the Probemasters are,  so I'm tempted to order a set.

I would like to hear comments from anyone that has both the Fluke TL40 probes as well as the Probemaster set. Which set do you prefer?

Of all the DMM probes I have used over the years, I really like the TL40. I'm not a fan of any of the big tip probes, I just find them way too clumsy for most SMT probing, I also don't like overly thick probe handles as too often you need to get the probe in a tight spot where there is not enough space for the big body handle. The TL40's also allow you do extend the tip when the access is really narrow. The one advantage I do see to the probemasters is the gold flashing.

Good Day,

I cannot comment on the probemaster probes, but I can truly recommend the Tektronix/Keithley 1756 probe set. Overall good quality and a good set of probes, and even the needle probes are 1000V/CAT III rated. They are discontinued and are offered at low prices now. I was lucky and got mine for 20 €...

I can't comment on either, however, I do have some suggestions!
I use these probes (with thin needles) on a regular basis and find em to be excellent, way easier to work with than regular ones:

Also, these attachments are good for tighter spaces:

You'd need 4MM>4MM banana cables for em, and if you don't already have such, then I'd recommend these silicone ones:

These would serve you well, and at reasonable costs!
