Free software for homemade microscope
« on: April 14, 2023, 04:05:01 am »
Hi everyone

I made my microscope based on that Eakins 180X C mount plus a 0.5 auxiliary objective lens from Aliexpress, it was intended to be cheap, so I attached it to a 720P Logitech webcam that I had around.
It's for my hobbyist weekend projects, so I 3D printed support with some adjustments and so far works great for me. Just need to figure out how to fix the lighting and I will be almost done.

Now I'm having a hard time with the software side, I'm using the standard Windows Camera app, it does the job, but it's too limited.
So I want to ask if you know any free software that could work better for a microscope, maybe with some functionalities that could make the work easier.

Thanks  :-+

If you wanted to, and have a little coding experience, it wouldn't be that hard to write a simple windows app to display a USB camera feed.
Then edit the data to do zoom or whatever features you want.

I use "IC measure" with my Eakins camera: https://www.theimagingsource.com/en-de/support/download/icmeasure-2.0.0.286/

It's free as in "not monetized", it's not open source if that's what you're looking for.

Thank you all

I tested all the suggestions and the option that ygi mentioned is exactly what I was looking for, but unfortunately for a reason that I still haven't identified, the option to select the camera, doesn't work.
My camera does not appear to be selected, only the option to review photos.

I researched about creating a python script to work with my camera and it really doesn't seem to be difficult, I like Psi's suggestion too, I'll research a little more.

But if anyone else has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks

S-EYE is another one. This one works with any generic USB camera (even works with thermal). The only caveat is to find a recent-ish version because it's generic Chinese software with no official webpage. Basically, you can easily find old 1.x versions here and there but the one you want is S-EYE 2.0.

I'm using a similar setup, but using Raspberry Pi 1 with a cheap 5MP camera attached.

Advantage of this setup is that you can use HDMI passthrough mode of the Pi, using raspistill -k command. There is almost no delay unlike USB camera.

Hellow everyone

I'm back to this project  ^-^

I use "IC measure" with my Eakins camera: https://www.theimagingsource.com/en-de/support/download/icmeasure-2.0.0.286/
It's free as in "not monetized", it's not open source if that's what you're looking for.

I found this software interesting, but I couldn't get it to recognize my camera, in the end I understood that it only analyzes images saved on the disk, so I kept it installed.

Hello. If you need it I have S-EYE version 2.0.5.851.

Excellent, this is exactly what I was looking for, it has all the features I need. I had a problem with msvcr100.dll in Windows 11 after installation, but this is how I resolved it: https://youtu.be/p5UF_aQloKQ?si=bKog1cbDw3HReFSB

Thank you very much my friend.  \$\Omega\$

For the people who are looking for the S-EYE software:
https://lapsun.com/Download.html
There is both a 1.x and 2.x version on that page.
At the moment the latest version appears to be 2.1.0.879 with modification date 2024-02-22.
