How loud is it? I have a genuine Hakko 936 and it hums noticeably when the heater turns on (working in a mostly quiet environment, I've learned to use it as a signal that the iron is ready.)

I took it apart and one of the screws holding the transformer to the case wasn't driven all the way in. Tightening everything up and adding thread locker cut the hum down quite a lot. I can only really hear it now with my head next to the base unit at normal temperatures, it's just audible near max temperature. I also noticed that my iron has a single PCB like the one in the OP, it doesn't have a separate switch and fuse PCB. The mains connections are not covered in insulating paste like the one in the OP :palm: that's one last thing I need to change.

Just wondering what the dimensions of the transformer is in these things ? They dont look big enough to be 50VA, rather more like 25-30VA !
