I2C/SPI Host Adapters! Aardvark and the Binho Nova
« on: March 11, 2022, 04:21:05 pm »
Hello everyone!

So I was about to buy the Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter; however before heading to the shop. I made a little and quick research and I found the following tool: Binho Nova: Multi-Protocol USB Host Adapter.
I'm impressed with Binho Nova specifications (higher interface frequencies for SPI and I2C than Aardvark, plus UART, 1-wirea nd ATMEL SWI interfaces support).

I would like to know if anyone of you had the opportunity to work with these two tools and could share his/her opinion?

BTW, the Binho nova is ~30% cheaper that the Aardvark in my region.  :-+

I'll list the key features for both tools:
Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter
● I2C master and slave up to 800 kHz†
● I2C multi-master support
● SPI master up to 8 MHz
● SPI slave up to 4 MHz
● GPIO with selectable pins

The Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter is compatible with:
● Display Data Channel (DDC)
● System Management Bus (SMBus)
● Power Management Bus (PMBus)
● Smart Battery Bus (SBBus)
● ntelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI)
● Two-Wire Interface (TWI)
Binho Nova Multi-Protocol USB Host Adapter
● Support for SPI @ 12MHz max clock
● Support for I2C @ 3.4MHz max clock
● Support for UART @ 1000000 max baud
● Support for Dallas 1-Wire
● Support for Atmel Single-Wire Interface
● Provides 3v3 and VUSB power rails
● 1 x DAC Output, 5 x ADC Inputs
● GPIO / Interrupt / PWM Support
● Programmable RGB Status LED
● Field-Upgradeable Device Firmware
● Cross-platform Support for Windows,
Mac, Linux
● Robust, low-profile Aluminum
Enclosure
● USB Type-C Connector

Cheers!
Francisco

What did you choose?
I found a clone Aardvark:

If you are looking for cheap did you consider the bus pirate as well? https://buspirate.com/
