KSGER OLED T12 Soldering Iron Station STM32 V2.1S
« on: July 21, 2020, 04:13:49 pm »
Hi
I just bought one of these soldering stations and notice that tip No 32 J02 is always selected in the tip menu and cannot be unselected (unchecked). I don't have a J02 tip.  This is confirmed on the main screen and doesn't change no matter what tip I use.  All other tip tip selection check boxes work normally.

Can anyone tell me what I can do about this?

Thanks in advance.
Trevor

Hi. I have also just received one of these.
On my unit J02 was the default tip, as shown on the main screen, but I couldn't un-check it in the [Tip] menu. However once I changed the active tip to the one that was actually in the iron, i.e. not J02, I was able to remove J02 from the menu. So it looks like the firmware won't let you un-check the tip which is currently active.
Maybe this is also what you are seeing? Try changing the active tip to another value than J02 and try the [Tip] menu again.
Cheers,
Robert

If any of you would like to know, you can Calibrate the Tips, here's a good video on how to.

Yes, on my 2.1S I just received, you have to choose a different tip in order to remove the current one.

Also interesting, every 2.1S version I have seen uses a 68uf 400V capacitor.  Mine has an 82uf 400V capacitor.  I measured across it and it measured 73uf, so may not matter much.  ChengX capacitor.  I bought a Nichicon 68uf 400V and two 1000uf 35V capacitors to replace the ChengX ones.  THen I'll ground the case and cut the corner on the heatsink for the rectifier to get it off the voltage trace.

Iron works great though.

That sounds good, the quality does vary quite a bit and if you get a good one they work fine.
I would add the fast-recovery diode across the heater (at the male GX12 pins) to clamp -ve spikes, as the 30V mosfet will not like those running off 25V.
Less work than cutting the heatsink is putting Kapton tape or even electrical tape over that portion of the pcb trace between the heatsink fins.

The primary capacitor is low height 16dx26h mm and I couldn't find anything bigger than 68uF 400V for Nichicon, Chemi-con offerings that short - unless I go to 250V (for 120VAC mains). I think past 27mm height you hit the lid. I have an Ltec cap there.

I just got a 2.1S and grounded the case and used the kapton tape under heatsink.  I also took the opportunity to add a little thermal paste to the chips attached to heat sinks.  I also replaced the caps with JCCON capacitors.  They are the only ones I could find (I bought Nichicon but waaaay too big.)  Hopefully they are at least better quality than the ChongX ones I replaced.  Three of  them.  The 82uf and two 1000uf ones.  Only used the soldering iron for a couple days now, but calibrated the IL tip I use and it worked flawlessly.  Great iron for $50 or so.

Did you ever resolve this?  I have just received a KSGER with V3.1S installed and I have the J02 problem you describe. It doesn't matter if another tip is active. The J02 cannot be deactivated?

I have a question.

Why are buying so many people the KSGER version of the T12 soldering station and not the Quicko Version, which has a much better build quality?

Quicko started off cheaper- 4-wire wands, STC MCU etc. Then the government mandated a name change to Quecoo. Right now, their prices are worse and they are confusing/hiding what you actually get i.e. controller version number when compared to the KSGER store.
Some Quicko stuff was better quality but too hard to wade through dozens of photos to figure out what you are getting.  Understanding the difference between their T12- 952, 955, 956, 942, 945, 958, 959 etc. is a bit much. Just organize your website please.
