MSP-EXP430G2 - Don't buy from TI
« on: September 15, 2010, 04:19:26 pm »
I ordered 3 MSP-EXP430G2 kits from the TI website on August 24th.
On August 25th I got an email saying they were backordered.
The "order status" on their website also said backordered.
On September 9, the order status changed to 'shipped', but there was no tracking number and the quantity backordered still showed 3.
Today, September 15, the order status still says 'shipped' -AND- 3 units backordered.
And as of today, no Fed-Ex truck has shown up.

Oh, and yes, they dinged my credit card back on August 24th.

If you are looking to get any of these, go to a distributor, NOT to TI directly.

By the way, if you plug "MSP-EXP430G2" into FindChips.com, it shows them in stock at Newark and Farnell.
I'm either at my bench, here, or on PokerStars.

Rumor is some people who ordered in June are still waiting for a shipment from TI, others somehow got preferred treatment.
I delete PMs unread. If you have something to say, say it in public.

Their website says that they are shipping every two weeks as they get stock.

Maybe talking smack on a public forum will expedite thing.  :)

HEY TI,    IT'S ORDER #588927

(and no, I'm not holding my breath)  ;D

Hello, do you have a URL to check my order status? I used the one they sent via email, but it stopped working. I want to check my order status (26th july).

Thanks

https://ti1.web-system.com/cgi/evm/oe/order_entry?action=mivaordertracking

You need your E-store order number. The page takes forever to load for me.
It doesn't give any account info, JUST the order status.
You can even check mine if you like.

Not to rub it in, but I ordered mine from element14/newark/farnell and got it in 3 days.  ;D

They say they've shipped it. I don't even remember they collected money from my credit card.

8.60 USD are hard to track.

I hope this info is true.

I ordered mine on June 23 and just received it last Tuesday. I called support on 9/2 to find out the status of my order only to be told that the order had not really shipped and to wait for a tracking number. Sad thing is I'm only a 4 hour drive away from the shipping location.

What strikes me as funny is that Billion dollar TI is having trouble with this.

Meanwhile...

Last night about 7pm I ordered 2 Arduino boards and an LCD driver from Modern Devices.
At 8am this morning I had shipping confirmation WITH a tracking number.

For $5 with S&H included, why worry?  I got mine 1 month ago after many months wait.  If they didn't shipped it contest the purchase.  I was given a tracking number too.
Best Wishes,

I had to order through TI e-store because no one else in Mexico has the launchpads in stock or with good buying conditions.

mexico.newark.com has them, but they arrive in 45 days or so. They have a 50USD minimum purchase and the launchpad costs 5.50USD more or less... definitely not worth buying it with them.

Mouser.com.mx also has some, but they collect 30USD for shipping... also a bad idea to buy with them.

So, TI e-store was the best choice for me.

Interesting ... this morning I see that my backordered quantity has changed to 0, but still no tracking number.

I don't have a problem with the fact that they are backordered. My issues with TI are ...

1- Their website should work and give accurate information.
2- If a line item is backordered, give me an approximate lead time or ship date.
3- Show at least a TINY bit of remorse for not being able to perform.

@shafri ... I wanted to play with the MSP parts because of their low power and sleep state options. Working on a weather sensor and cutting the power requirement reduces the battery and PV panel sizes.

Guys, mine just arrive today and I ordered it right after Dave's blog :D. My delivery went snail pace but I am okay. Give TI a break on this one, there are probably more like me who order long ago and it hasn't arrive to them yet. After all the crash on TI site, don't expect the delivery stuff to be accurate.

Hmm, I got my three units about 1 week after ordering them back in June...I must have sneaked in just before they ran out of stock.

Yesterday I just ordered the wireless Chronos watch.  I had a discount code from the TI seminar...50% off....sweet.

You're very lucky. Those of us who stuffs haven't arrive yet live everyday thinking some spammer got our credit card info. Luckily mine arrive today, so I am feeling better ;D

It seems that other manufacturers are now getting wise to selling cheap dev boards. Last week ST announced their $9:95 ARM Cortex based board. Obviously, being an ARM cored device it isn't in DIP format, but I suspect 99% of owners would just buy an entire board and use that anyway.

ST entered the low-cost game with the STM8S Discovery long before TI with the LaunchPad and they have other interesting, albeit not super low-cost offerings, like the STM32 Primers.

ST's offerings didn't get senselessly hyped like TI's LaunchPad. But as opposite to TI, ST is talking to their users, while TI decided to ignore them.

Just got my 2 yesterday, ordered back in June, and I found that TI don't answer queries as to WTF they are.

Notice the free shipping is no longer, I wonder why? (Fed Ex to AU) ;D
The Bean Counters have lost out big time on my order  ;D
