hello, some info about FR-400 and FX-801.
as you have noticed they are new products, we will get both of them on the first week of April only for test purpose.
those two models are not CE approved yet, HAKKO is confident to be ready for the EU market in May 2015, but so far it is a guess only. we can provide more solid info by time to time.
FR-400 is a complete new design by HAKKO for heavy duty challenge. it is interesting to see the new anti-clogging system:

It’s going to be a difficult market out there at a price 1450+vat euro, when the well known Pace
http://export.farnell.com/pace/8007-0522/desoldering-system/dp/1279330 (http://export.farnell.com/pace/8007-0522/desoldering-system/dp/1279330)
costs 882+vat euro.
-
Pace is 120W and 8L/min suction flow
Hakko is 300W and 15L/min suction flow
Hakko new heating system will prevent clogging.
FR-400 is a desoldering monster and the moment there is not a real competitor on the market, they will probably come with new models.
If you have such desoldering challenges just give it a try! (Demo from seller)

Why does this high end product look like a cheap chinese crap product?
Blue plastick , yellow buttons OMG :palm:
-
I agree, this is a really high end product designed for a production environment where it will be used and abused all day every day doing thousands of joints and hour. For hobbyists the FR-300 is more suitable and also far, far better than any of the competition around that price range.
Hakko stuff isn't cheap but it is the best.
In which production environments are thousands of joints desoldered every hour? I don't really understand the target market for this, except for the most high-end of repair/rework where price is no issue (even still...)
-
Today they don’t repair pcbs, they just throw them away and buy a new one.
And especially now, all are, or going to smd.

There Is a high demand for suck specs in the automotive hybrid applications

Not all PCB's are that cheap. Some (custom) ones can cost a lot, and simple repairs might be much cheaper than replacement. We repair a lot of PCB's and use a Weller WR3M. It' even more expensive than the Hakko, but also a more versatile station. It has payed itself back within a few months.

Looks a lot like one of those cheap chinese desoldering stations that dave jones purchased and reviewed,
It may be more powerful than the pace sx90/100 but the pace system is proven to be faultless when it comes to air-leaks and cleaning out, I would like to hear some real world reviews after a month of use to see if it requires using grease to keep air seals like the chinese guns do.

Not everyone may like the color scheme Hakko is using for much of their newer product line, but it's quality certainly is way above that of any of the cheap Chinese stations. Hakko has been making decent desoldering solutions for the money for many years. I seriously doubt it will be plagued with the kind of problems you fear. Even if first production units should have some issues, Hakko has proven itself to me to stand behind their products with excellent service and support.
While the price may be much higher than most of us would like it to be (myself included), there really is not much competition in the market they have targeted with this station. All the while I'm complaining about the price, I'll be hoping I can score a good second hand FR-400 for a fraction of retail sometime in the foreseeable future.

If they work well I would like to own one too, even though at the moment I consider myself a pace Fanboy :-DD

Say you built some power supplies and then found out that the caps you used were bad. You could scrap them, but it might be more economical to just buy one of those and pay someone to rework them all.
Sure, but more economical than buying a competitor's unit for half the price, or even another Hakko for 3 or 4 times less? I certainly understand the function, I just don't get the pricepoint/featureset they've gone for.
-
The pricing I posted are not definitive. I took some Japanese Yen indication and made the conversion abd adjustment based on my experience adding a fee for CE and security test HAKKO will need to pay before selling into Europe.
I just checked the American HAKKO web site and the products are not even listed yet.
I guess I can be more accurate in one month from now, I'll keep this thread up to date.

We have provided a FX-801 to a local EMS and most probably next week I will go to visit them to take pictures of the unit in action. I will also have the FR-400 and try to desolder too. If they will allow me I will also record some videos.

Cool, thanks, would be nice to unsolder various connectors, even with the fr-300.

I second this pester! Such a nozzle would be very useful.

Had an idea to buy an bigger nozzle, and cnc a slot in it, but I don't have an cnc, and I don't think I'm that steady enought to use a hacksaw.

For that matter, just buy a capable small cnc and enough blank stock to make a few hundred nozzles. Then post the nozzles for sale and pay for the cnc. I'll buy one.

What’s the price for nozzles?

it seems the FR-300 does not have enough thermal capacity to work with such shapes

Hi
Frequently I need to replace big ethernet connector module (through hole), many electrolytic capacitors, mounted on big polygon on the multilayer PCB and other through hole components.
Now I use different China tools, and also preheat the PCB by the hot air.
But it very difficult.
I want to buy desoldering station.
I look at PACE with SX-100 tools.
Metcal MFR-1350 with MFR-H5-DS
Also may be JBC DDE with DR560-A
But when I saw this Hakko, I think it will be best for me.
You already try this station in the real work?
What is Your impression?
Thanks!

Blue plastick , yellow buttons OMG :palm:
It's their signature colour scheme. You can look at a workbench from 50m away and instantly tell there's a Hakko on it.
Sort of like Noctua fans (generally considered the best computer fans) and their 'poo and cream' colour scheme. They get a lot of complaints, but you instantly know someones rocking Noctuas. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608026 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608026)

I believe the reason is that hobbieists can buy this expensive device and can fool the wife since she will think from the looks its cheap :-DD

Soldering and desoldering snap-in Kandeil capacitors 470uF/450V on the DC bus pcb - Selema, i think for motor control device :)
Nice!
-
can you see it?
Yes I can see it now.
It does not look like it is a walk in the park desoldering those capacitors and that at 450oC :o .
How would the FR-300 perform, fail?
