Pace Price increase ?
« on: June 07, 2020, 02:06:21 pm »
Did they increase the price of the pace ads200 over the last couple of months ?
The cheapest i can find it is about 290€ (its on sale from 360€). Because at this point i could also go for a JBC Station which you can also get for arround 380€
Is this just a price increase due to supply shortage or is this the normal price now ?
The reason im asking is because i saw alot of ppl talk about it costing 220 usd so i was expecting it to cost 220-250€

I recall buying it from from Farnell (the stand with sensor option) for about 1100PLN which is about 250€.
I love the smell of FR4 in the morning!

The Pace ADS200 (w/ISB) was 250€ list in June 2018 (I assume that is before tax). This was the introductory price with distributors setting their own prices. In the US it was $265 but with the tequipment.net discount and our eevblog discount it was ~$220. In Jan 2020 there seemed to be a price increase it looks somewhere around $295 list as best as I can tell.

You have Batronix selling the Atten AT980D ... can use Hakko tips with it ...

Batterfly sells Hakko stuff and ships to Germany (16 euro + vat shipping for orders below 200 euro) ... they sell the EU versions so you'd be fine.

The Pace ADS200 is quite a different beast to the Hakko FX951 (read below). Neither the Hakko FX951 or the JBC CD stations run tweezers, so if you are looking towards expanding tools in the future take that into consideration.

Atten AT980D is a Hakko 936 clone with a fancy interface they even copied Hakkos tip series 900M.

Pace ADS200 (120W power)
All metal construction station, stand and handpiece, easy to use interface, clear and easy to read display, cheap and reliable tips which come in two series standard, and ultra (which have more mass). The handpiece is made from one piece of extruded aluminum, it's very robust, cool running and swapping tips is easy. Pace just released new MT200 tweezers for the station.

Hakko FX951 (75W power)
Plastic station, part metal stand, plastic handpiece, poor interface, small display, tips ok reliability but more expensive than Pace. Only takes standard tips. Handpiece is overly complex and feels like it could easily break while swapping tips. They have a dumb tip swapping method which requires you to buy more (dirt absorbing) sponge/plastic sleeves so there is a hidden expense. Has a key card system that will lock you out if you lose it and it sits right below buttons, the station beeps at you as well, both of these features are quite annoying.

Get the instant setback version if you can afford to, less messing around if you change your mind later.

The brochure shows about 37 tips, on the webstore you can find all 54 released so far.

I was considering Pace's ADS200 and JBC's Compact Solder Station (CD-1BQF). As part of that, I read a good part of the main ADS200 thread. That thread reveals exactly how much Pace has jacked up the price of the ADS200 over the last three years. Meanwhile, JBC has made improvements to its station, especially increasing the keypad from three to seven controls, with no price increase. JBC also offers a three year warranty to Pace's one.

It wasn't a hard decision.

I went for PACE in the end as you can still buy ADS200 for a good price from CPC Farnell for favourable price £270 inc. VAT.
Decision wasn't easy between JBC and Pace, however price of JBC tips is just ludicrous IMO.
