Quick 2008 ESD, any good?
« on: June 04, 2021, 12:11:47 am »
A few years back Dave reviewed the Quick 861DW and gave it positively glowing praise.
I'm just wondering if the design and build quality was good across the whole range, specifically the 2008ESD as it's price is far more inline with a hobbyist's budget.

Has anyone done a teardown/review of the 2008ESD (my google-fu hasn't found anything, well at least anything in english).

Better yet, has anyone had hands-on experience with both units and could offer some comments on the cheaper unit and how it compares to it's more expensive cousin?

Replying now as I had the same quuestion and I bit the bullet and purchased one. First off I dont actually think its a genuine quick, they don't advertise it on their website at all.

I just purchased the 2008 one after looking around for a bit. I was space constraint so I was trying to get a thin profile. In the end I should've just purchased something like this one from kogan australia:
https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/gobrandshop-hot-air-desoldering-soldering-rework-solder-station-blower-welding-repair-tools-8464016/

Half the price and identical. Though I wouldn't like to use the old iron...

Mounting the different attachments has this "bayonet" styled fitting just like in the link. I think the fitting is better than having to locate a screw driver each time. But a friend of mine has the nice quick that you mentioned and that is a push fit. You will also notice that despite it having the same terminating tip like the good one, the Quick 2008 that I have is actually all powered from the handgun rather than a pump within the machine itself like the big unit.

I cannot comment on the performance between the 2, though I would suggest AGAINST buying the Quick 2008 and just go for another cheaper knock off like an updated Yihua. One closer to the kogan link like the one I have in the image.

Thanks for that feedback, and apologies for my delayed response. I ended up biting the bullet and just getting the 861dw after all.
