Remote Car Engine Starter
« on: November 28, 2022, 05:27:42 am »
Hello there,

Anyone ever install one of these?  I was wondering just how hard are they to install.

My car has minimum start prevention i think only that the brake pedal has to be depressed.

Not that hard, just the interlocks to detect the vehicle is in park or neutral before enabling it, and then switching the ignition and accessory systems on in the correct order.  Most modern vehicles though have the ability to do that built into the BCM already, you just need to turn it on, and it will start the engine, though it will not allow the vehicle to be shifted out of park until you either have the key in the ignition, to allow immobilisor to communicate with the valid key, or the keyless entry does the same. If it is a modern vehicle you are stuck with letting the agents do it, or getting the manufacturer kit, but for older vehicles with no immobiliser (all metal key with no small chip in it) it is simple to install, just need to tie into the gearbox position sensor switch, and connect the appropriate power relays to the ignition switch and interlocks.

Hey thanks for the reply very informative and yes i have an older vehicle so the key is all metal i believe except for the part you hold when you turn it, but i dont think it has a chip i can find out for sure though.

Now about the shift sensing.
Could i bypass that by connecting to 12v or ground or something like that?  The thing is, i would never try to start the car without looking at it from a window, and besides that, the car will not let you take the key out of the ignition until the car is in park or neutral.  It's also sitting in a driveway.
If that is true would that make it even easier to install?
One thing i dont get though, where do you connect the connection that gets past the key so it doesnt need the key?
