Replacement Coin Cell, CR2450 vs glucose meter.
« on: February 28, 2015, 09:38:09 pm »
Had to dremel out the battery compartment of my glucometer today. The two coin cells that came with the unit were over 15 years old. Bought two new ones from Jaycar. Didn't fit. The newer battery has a deeper positive terminal and plastic lip around the battery's negative terminal in the holder prevents the batteries from being inserted fully and therefore the battery door wont clip in.

I got by, it's now working fine. My question is do these batteries change physical specs often? I mean, the two sizes, width and thickness which define the battery are correct. Is it the device manufacturer's fault for putting that silly, redundant lip of plastic underneath the positive terminal.

There are differences between manufacturers with the 2450 and 2477 -  some. e.g. renata  have a lip, some, e.g. Panasonic have parallel sides .

Hi Mike. Yeah, saw that when I googled around.

But these are both CR2450. The old and new batteries have CR2450 stamped on them. Yet, they look different side on.

The unit specifies "2 x DL 2450"

Glucometers are essentially given away free here in the US. Companies make their money on the test strips.  I've got a box of them sitting on my desk at work. Happy to send one to someone if needed.
