Well that's what I plan to do. I ordered one off of Amazon for the S-993A. I just hope it is the 110V version. My element is open but I do have a friend that has one so I plan to do the measurements there. The S-993A has screw on tips so I ordered some of those too. I plan to put some copper based never-sieze on the threads as I could see this being a problem. Hopefully the parts will work. It seems that there are quite a few competitors in the portable desoldeing gun business. Most look like the same one, just re-badged.
Since I really needed the unit for an intensive repair project I went ahead and bought the Hakko FR-301. I can say it is worth the difference in price. Night and day in performance. As a test run I removed over 200 various parts from a couple of doublesided PCB's I had in my junk box and it worked like gangbusters. As a desoldering gun it seems equal to the PACE I have on the bench so far.
The only complaints I have is the stand is a joke, the BK3090 one is much better. And the case is cheap blow molded so no room for accessories or a good stand and a roll of solder. I wish companies would think more about how people use portable devices as you always need accessories and spare parts therefore room for them.
Thank you for responding!

P.S. I don't think I will go the Circuit Specialists route the next time I need soldering equipment. They seriously let me down on the BK3090. It's still on the EU site but missing from the USA site and I searched for a couple of hours last night and could not find anything specific on the unit. So much for Solderwerks!
