T12 iron holder? (recomendation)
« on: November 19, 2021, 05:17:05 am »
I bought a VERY cheap T12 iron on amazon that works shockingly well.  https://www.amazon.com/Soldering-Function-Adjustable-Temperature-Ergonomic/dp/B08NDH4Q2T/

The only problem I have with it is the wire coil shaped holder for it doesn't fit at all and tip ends up touching the coil causing the entire holder to get REALLY hot.  Does anyone have a generic soldering iron holder they like that fits this okay?

I have this Zhongdi ZD-10E: https://www.roboter-bausatz.de/p/loetkolben-ablage-mit-schwamm holder which works OK with my T12. The white is a ceramic insert, the tip is not touching the spiral wire.

Granted, I don't do a lot of soldering, but I bought one like this, although I paid less (I think I might have gotten it from ebay).

This one is cheap, although at least for the T12 handle I have the tip does touch on the inside:
https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/aven-tools/17530/4926915

Also the holes in it aren't big enough to fit T12 tips for storage, so you'd have to drill them out or make some/print a storage rack.

You can sometimes use a narrow necked glass bottle. But watch out, if the iron is hot enough, it might just suddenly crack and break. This is rarely a good or adequate holder.  It breaks if the iron is too hot. Its likely not safe.

That's also sold under the Duratool brand, part number: D03173
I use this holder for a Zhongdi ZD-8915 desoldering gun as it is far better than the supplied holder.
Ironically the original manufacturer seems to be Zhongdi and their part number is: ZD-10W

There are no decent T12-clone stands, the chinese can't make one - I've tried a couple and if you search you will see people doing mods to them.
Either the stand hole size/shape is terrible, or the stand is just stupid- no place to put tips, too light falls over etc.
The FX9501 (clone) handle and stand diameter is way off, so it likes to fall out. I think they might be just using 936 stands for T12. I was so mad I was going to get a custom one machined up.
The KSGER 951? cast blue+yellow is garbage, the hole is huge and has a sharp lip that hooks the handle sometimes. I filed it down.

The machined stand I did not try, it was expensive but not now. Looks OK but like all the crappy stands - no place to put tips, bolt goes loose, oddball sponge size and does it really hold the handle in place? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001861509937.html

The "zinc alloy" stand, the handle just flips up and out onto your carpet. Russians added a metal lip as a fix.

The problem I think is there are many T12-clone handle designs of different sizes, and nobody tailors a stand to them.

Any tips on how to modify the stand that came with my T12 clone soldering station?  It fits the included T12-907 handle perfectly, but I prefer the T12-9501 handle and it doesn't fit as well.

I like the "added hook rest" option posted above by
I've tried a couple and if you search you will see people doing mods to them.
- but I haven't seen this model for sale.  I was considering DIYing it by adding a U-bolt to the stand to support the iron from underneath.

I don't think you should bother. Just get the blue Ksger stand with the yellow piece in the middle (it's compatible with the 9501 handle)

I hope it's heavy enough not to slip on the table
