T12 maximum wattage?

(1/1)

bozza:
The KSGR station with the built in psu can deliver up to 120W. Are there any T12 tips that can actually take advantage of this?
Does the default ksger firmware limit the wattage to 70W by default?

The following tips are some of the bigger tips that I can find: T12-1401 1402 1403.
Are there any other tips which would use more than 70 watts?

The Hakko FM 203 has an output of 140W and it also uses the T12 tips.

ygi:
T12 tips are all 72W. So ksger clones with 120W supply are just marketing. Granted you may want a PSU with a higher rating when it comes from a questionable manufacturer.
FM-203 is a dual tool station. You can either plug 2 irons or hot tweezers but it still can't deliver more power per tool.

thm_w:
As ygi said, the T12 tip rating is 72W, and in reality its going to use at most 50-60W or so.
There might be some value, if you enjoy hacking the station, in adjusting the 24V up to a higher voltage, to hit 72W+. But you'd have to check a number of parts to ensure they are compatible, and accept the risk of tip burning up.

FM203 supports the FM2030 handle and T22 tips which are rated for 140W.

DavidAlfa:
Long time ago I tried driving them with 30V. Performance was not better and the tips died quickly.
Even 70W is too much for some of these cheap clones.

thm_w:
30V would be ~110W, massive.

I would only bother if needed on large genuine tips, from what I've seen the clone tips are not close in terms of performance (I still buy and use them of course).
