Thermaltronics TMT-2000 tip families
« on: April 19, 2021, 03:14:14 pm »
I am looking to upgrade to a Thermaltronics 2000 series soldering station.  I need to choose which handpiece and corresponding family of tips to select.  Any recommendations about picking the S/SxP or P/SSC tips (Thermaltronics/Metcal compatible)?

It looks like both have plenty of tip options and I don't see any important differences.  Am I missing something?

This is for hobbyist stuff.

They show K P S series photos here:

I assume only one type will fit. So which station do you have?

Then you'll need to decide on which temperature you want.

Otherwise yeah, lots of tip styles to choose from.

Perhaps I wasn't clear, I haven't bought the station yet.  I'm trying to decide which TMT-2000S model to get.  I believe the only difference between the models is the handpiece and which tips they accept.

Yes. I would choose whatever style seems to be more commonly available.

K series looks to have the lowest price ($10), although the others only a dollar or two more.

There is a review on Amazon U.S., dated January 11, 2021, that talks about the differences, based on an exchange with Thermaltronics: https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltronics-TMT-2000S-PM-Soldering-100-240VAC-interchangeable/dp/B00NS4J254/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=tmt-2000s&qid=1620049168&sr=8-1

I've attached a screen capture.

I saw another discussion shortly after reading that, I'm pretty sure on Thermaltronics's website.
