LY G720 BGA rework - anyone used one?
« on: November 09, 2019, 05:34:23 pm »
Hi guys
Has anyone used one of the Automatic or semi-automatic BGA rework machines?

I'd specifically like to hear opinions of the LY G720.  Its a bit expensive but I can get one at a reasonable price with black Friday sales coming up. I've also some across a similar machine called DH-A2E but that is more automated and more expensive

Cheers
Rich

OK took advantage of the sale price and I ordered one today.  I've spent the last year looking at these sort of machines and what would best suit my business plans.  I eventually came to the decision that a semi automatic 3 zone with hot air and optical alignment was a good choice for repeatable results.  I've been discussing this particular machine with this seller on and off over the last couple of months to be sure it is suitable for my intended uses.

I guess I'll just have to review it myself once I learn to use it properly

I should have it in about 10 days.  In the meantime any advice for a new BGA machine owner, and how to navigate the inevitable learning curve, will be much appreciated  ;)

Rich.

Hello!

Great to see a chinese-bga-(semi-)automatic owner, did you receive it ? are you happy with it ?

Some feedback would be greatly appreciated as I'm tempted to buy one :-)

Thanks !

I own a similar, quite possibly identical machine, and am reasonably content with it. Done probably about 100-150 BGA replacements with it over the course of a year. I feel that the process reproduces reasonably well after I've resorted to using temperatures higher than I'd ideally prefer. Touch screen and interface are decent, about what you'd expect from a Chinese tool. Build quality is pretty good. Slightly annoying is inability to access the WinCE menu's, so the system time is still set to something Eastern until the CMOS battery runs out, and I see no way of changing it. Not a big deal though.

Great feedback !  Louis Rossman posted a video years ago about this kind of bga rework stations that quite scared me (search YT for "Zhuo Mao ZM-R6200c for Macbook Pro logic board repair"), he had huge issues with it, the main one was actually the suction cup that almost never holds the bga properly...

Could you please share the exact model name ?  Thanks!

The one I have is branded 'WDS-620' from 'wisdomshow'. The suction cup has not given me any trouble at all. The only thing to slightly look out for is that when the pickup is not centered on the BGA, it might tilt a little. That might complicate aligning it using the camera, but my experience is that is you're within 0.3*ball pitch the surface tension will pull it perfectly into place anyway.
