You had me on the edge of my seat there. First you left the toilet seat up with an open bowl just waiting to catch anything that might fall, and then you left the top off the bottle of Goo Gone standing precariously on the paper towels, just waiting to be knocked over. My nerves could barely stand it.

Nice! Fluke 87 and similar with removable rubber holsters; I just throw it in the dishwasher as needed and it can get between 90-100% clean, depending on the type of grease stuck to it.  For really bad marks I use dishwasher fluid.

Best Wishes,

I use the Fluke MC6 cleaning wipes.

They are loaded with a strong solvent that removes grease and dirt. You dont need to take the multimeter apart to clean it and you dont risk short-circuiting anything. It can be used directly on the screen protective covers and on the printings.

It is rather aggresive so gloves are reccommended although not necessary. Unfortunately it cannot remove pen markings from holsters that have diffused into the plastic.

Cost £6 in  pack of 6, thats £1 per cleaning session. That's a small price to pay for peace of mind. You can use just one for 2 or 3 instruments depending on how dirty they are.

When I ripped the towel, the Goo Gone bottle almost fell over, you can see it shaking.

Before & After.

Got it broken for $100, paid a little money to a gentlemen who supplied the LCD. After many hours of scrubbing with detergent and Melamine foam/magic eraser.

Restoring equipment requires patience and trial + error. Try everything a household can offer. I usually start with the mildest cleaning agent, in this case, it's Australia http://www.morningfresh.com.au/ dish washing liquid. Most of the time it's all that I need with a scrubbing pad and an old toothbrush.

I have never tried the dishwasher because I don't wish to contaminate the filters. Industrial waste and food don't mix.

Thanks for the video, though have to admit it trickled my nerve too seeing that bottle hanging there like that.

Just curious, how did you "mount"  ;D the cam ? Did you strap it at your forehead or something ? Must be small and light weight.

Love the idea on freeing both of your hands there when doing this kind of video.

I'm working on building the head mount rig. The camera is Panasonic Lumix FZ28, and I hold it with my teeth by the viewfinder. I know it's barbaric but it shows my POV very accurately.

Since I got a cheap ultrasonic cleaner, it's a real pleasure to clean stuff.

Highly recommended!

Cheers,
Dan

Replacing an LCD and soldering a fuse holder is "true talent" now? I don't get you man, first of all you come into this topic and contribute nothing even closely related to discussion, then you (and I know this ahead of time) question whether I made the video, and I *guarantee* you asked because you wanted to respond with something hostile, then out of the blue you are sucking up to a random user. English is not my first language either, but I don't come off as an arrogant asshole with some weird motives in every thread. What the hell is wrong with you?

I have notice that you was holding a fork behind your back from the beginning,
and I lost my interest completely, about replying to you.
Next time be more friendly , if you care to get any reply from me.

Kiriakos you hold a fork behind your back in every post you make. You could have easily found out if I made the video because my YouTube username matches my signature. You asked because you wanted to post something inflammatory. Also, I couldn't care less if you respond to my posts.

I thought this is regarding refurbishing so I posted what I did to my very greasy and dirty fluke. If you don't like it then I won't chime in to your post again, my apologies.

I can understand why my wife takes stabs at me - who else is going to take that shit? ;) I don't get why it has to happen here though (Kiriakos, this is aimed at you because yeah, your posts sometimes sound like you're having a bad day and just want to dump on someone so I have no idea what your point is).

That being said, I find these rehab threads very valuable, and would even recommend we start a sticky type thread somewhere with tried methods and chemicals for this kind of stuff. Obviously, not everyone can get all the chemicals in every country, but I'll bet we can find equivalents most of the time.

Put the fool onto ignore Wartex! He's not worth the effort! His continual efforts to stroke his own ego and ascend some imaginary pecking order far outweigh the benefit of anything he has to contribute.  He considers this forum as his own, just dispach his nonsense to the ether, it make the world a better place.

Cheers for your posts and video.

Beware of the fool, he is capable to shove your head at the toilet seat and press the flush button.

That's an excellent thought PetrosA, perhaps Dave could consider adding a wiki where we could collectively build a compendium of the best tips and other information from the forum?
