Washing machine switch
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:49:32 pm »
Hello!
Washing machine broke down, and i found, that the door locking switch has burned out.
Its metalflex zv446.
When i short 2 brown wires, on the connector or pins 2,3 the machine washes a lil bit, then stops.
How could i bypass the switch?
And what is little cylindrical thing doing?
http://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/BICwIHSBCE5dWJMl.medium-this isnt my switch

Thanks!

That is a thermal switch, it heats up and then locks the door so you cannot open it and have 50l of soapy hot water all over the floor by accident. It heats up and expands a small bimetal strip that operates the contacts to power the machine and to lock the door closed until the wash is finished. They are not expensive, about $15 and are pretty common parts to fail. The small rod is a PTC thermistor that will heat up to a constant 100-200C and then stay at that temperature. If you bypass it and the machine runs and stops then you have either a faulty water level switch, a faulty heater or thermoswitch ( check by selecting a cold wash to see if it completes) or a faulty rotary controller or electronic board.

Controll board looks fine, where should water level and thermal swirtches be located at?

Water level is either a switch or a sensor block on the top at the rear with a small pipe leading down. Common is the pipe is blocked from detergent. Thermal switches and sensors are on the bottom of the drum. Pics will help a little, as there are often multiple models and makes using the same inside parts with only cosmetic changes.

I measured resistance of heater and its about 30R and resistannce of sensor is 24k with little bit of water in the drum.

Washer drier, so the top one is the drier element and the motor in the alloy casting. The lower one is the water heater. The level sensor is the one on DSC00999 in the top left corner, with the little clear plastic pipe leading off from it.

Could be any colour, but there is a tube leading off from there to the bottom of the machine, and it will connect to the bottom either via it's own connector or off the drain piping. Undo at the top carefully and blow through to make sure it is clear. Depending on the machine it will have either 2/3 wires and contain a pressure transducer of some sort that leads to the main control board. If it is faulty or the board is faulty then you will need to replace.

Il get new door switch, and replace connector-block with fastons, beacuse its totaly melted.
I already checked the controll board and there isnt anything black or melted.
Preasure sensor works ok, and hose is clear, beacuse when i blow in it i can hear switch making contact.
When i blow in it the motor starts to turn, when id dont water starts going in detergent box.
