What is this International Rectifier part?
« on: January 31, 2013, 10:14:20 pm »
Hi all,

Anybody knows what this part is? I got it in a power supply, so I thought array of mosfet or diodes.

 :)

I dont think it is an array of diodes or mosfets...

Since you found it in a power supply if I had to hazard a guess,

I d say it was one of those intelligent PWM controllers with internal power switch (with or without PFC).

Seems pretty silly to design a power supply with some weird, new unobtainium-next-month diode/FET array when there are thousands of standard jelly bean parts that will do the job. I agree, it's probably an IC of some sort. Can't find anything on it, though. Have you tried finding the schematic for the supply? Or even manually trace out the circuit around it, if it's not too complicated.

It was from a machine power supply that should delivered at least 200Amps. I saw the logo from I R but can't find anything on the net. Strange....

Well..  Tracing the tracks to the Power module should be a start...

You might find the function of the IC and be able to look up an equivalent part of IR

IR has (had?) modules with IGBT bridges, etc. It might be one of those. The sticker however may indicate it is a custom module. I once had an online UPS with a custom IGBT module from IR. Guess what happened to the UPS when the IGBT module got fried...

Mitsbushi and Infineon still make those kind of modules.
I think, in a DIP package AFAICR.

Looking at the part and the output specs provided by the OP :-

Those parts are generally rated for 10~20 Amps Input.

Assuming it is a 240V line we are considering, we are talking about  ~ 5 KVA of load capabiity.
In reality, the power output should be closer to 3.5 KW max, if it is a reasonable efficiency system.

and at the 200 Amps output I d say it is a 24/12V system.

This is definitely a customer-specific part. 95-0173 is a customer-specific, IRF-internal order code. You are rather not likely to buy

IRF does that when customer requests for example that the component is tested in some non-standard way, or particular tight tolerance is needed and post-production selection is made. It's just for internal identification for customer specific part. At may be fully custom as well. Hard to tell because you cannot search by internal part number on IRF site.

I love the smell of FR4 in the morning!

Tracing??? If you take a good look at the pcb you will notice that it is a 6 layer pcb.

With some patient googling I got this alibaba page that, while the picture of the device looks wrong, it give some information about the device 90-0173:
095-0173  IR 3+ DC/DC converters  Intelligent Power Module  igbt power module     2DIO: 600A35V
(http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/662576967/New_and_original_module_95_0173.html)
Makes sense?

Other pages point to some obscure Chinese seller that has a IOR 95-0173 in ZIP9 package (that seems to be the correct package looking at the photo)
