4 sided ferrule crimper past 6 gauge?
« on: January 19, 2020, 04:07:29 pm »
does it exist? wago only sells to 6AWG then the tool becomes standard compression type (deform into mold rather then compress around crimp). do people make one for heavy gauges that has 4 anvils? (not in wago catalog)

Knipex has a 5 AWG/16 mm2 - https://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1216&L=1&page=group_detail&parentID=1299&groupID=1307

I've never seen larger ferrules then 16 mm2 anyway.

I kind of wonder if the 97 53 14 is cutting some corners, considering the wago one has a selection switch on it for size .... is the mechanism that clever that it manages better quality, with 'automatic transmission', on a wider crimp range, without a selector switch?

I saw them on eBay but I was suspicious... crimp quality will be everything at those current levels IMO.. or wago is just pumping the wallet....

You wont need the selection-switch on the smaller one. It takes 0,25 to 10 mm2 cables in one adjustment. They work fine.

The bigger one only needs to be switched when you crimp over 10 mm2. The switch opens the jaws a little to make the bigger ferrule fit inside. (Note 10 mm2 and 16 mm2 is stamped on the switch)
