Hakko fx-888d (OEM)
« on: January 13, 2016, 08:21:34 pm »
Hey,
I am planning to get a backup soldering station in addition to those I have now.
I saw a lot of recommendations about the Hakko fx-888d, from my research I saw only OEM version available, should I take some things in mind before buying?

Thanks ;)

Do you understand what "OEM" means? OEM certainly is not the same as counterfeit which is sold everywhere. Get one from Tequipment, for example.

I do understand what OEM stands for ;D, I am planning to buy it on eBay ( I need 220-240vac version, http://www.ebay.com/itm/311143784532). I would also like to hear from anyone who has experience with this station...

100% fake at the price which is rather close to the genuine 220V version in the EU and significantly higher than 120V version in the US. May I ask why do you need 220V version? Guess you are not in USA as your profile says?

Wraper convinced me to get the ERSA Nano station, it's 230V and can be bought from Germany. I am informed that it is a superior station to the Hakko FX-888D for not much more money.
It hasn't arrived yet but everyone who has one seems to like it, take a look.

Or get Pico if you are ok with not being ESD safe and a bit short on money. Though brand choice is highly region dependent. I personally own two of I-CON 2 with three i-tools and X-tool.

Original equipment manufacturer - company which makes parts for genuine equipment, nothing to do with what Chinese sellers use it for. Just say fake if you mean fake, without making it sound better.

Here in the US as is the OP flag, we don't see 230V Hakko FX-888D stations.  They are 120V and sell for under $100 USD.  the Icon Nano sells for $245 USD and will require a step up transformer.  I would also like to know why ytech15 needs a 230V version.

didn't noticed that the location was set to USA. I updated it.
I need a 220V version since I live in Amsterdam and here we use 220v.
if most eBay sellers are not reliable, Do you consider amazon.com more reliable?

Thanks& sorry for the incorrect location

There are a lot of fakes on amazon as they are sold by sellers the same way as on ebay. Batterfly is authorized Hakko distributor http://www.batterfly.com/shop/hakko_fx-888d

They have the best pricing I've seen in the EU/UK for Hakko gear.   :-+

If you ever decide to make an upgrade, Ersa is really worth considering (excellent equipment, tip selection, and a better value than Weller or Hakko in the EU/UK market IMHO).  ;)

Indeed. OEM is the exact opposite of counterfeit!!
