Fluke 89IV terrible buzzer sound - continuity mode.
« on: November 05, 2011, 09:02:02 pm »
Today I had the chance to play with Fluke 89IV and with one Fluke 87 first gen (made at 1994).

The digits on the 89IV LCD are too small for my taste, but hey this in not a review,
even so I tested the continuity mode, and the buzzer sound was terrible.
It was not a stray beep tone,  but an repeatable beep-song with scalable volume.
Like a sound of an cheap alarm clock.

The old 87 first gen, was had the classic Fluke class about the beep sound and speed, but it is lots lower in volume from the latest 87V. (87-5)

Fluke seems to have some quality issues lately.
We use a lot of fluke 233's at work.
I have seen one occation of a very weak buzzer on the continuity test, and another case where you could not turn the meter on again by pressing the yellow button(may be a firmware update?)

I did not expect this from Fluke! Over here we even call a DMM a Fluke.

Use your warranty.  That is what it is there for.  Fluke, like any company, will never make perfect products and/or services, but give them a chance to "make it right".

I'm not bashing Fluke, i was just not expecting this. The problems are not really an issue, the instrument works fine.
Had it been some cheap meter off ebay, i would almost have expected a defect like this.

Yeah, i see the thread is pretty old, yeah  :palm: Just sharing my experiences.
