Zd 915 vs zd8915 desoldering station.
« on: July 11, 2022, 05:05:14 pm »
Hi everyone.
I am buying a desoldering station and since i cant justify buying a quality hakko unit i am going for cheap chinesium unit.
The only problem is i cannot decide which one to get...
My options for now are zd915 (115 €) or zd8915 (81€)
I did some reading and some people complain about zd8915 having a thinner barrel and less thermal mass...
So which one should i get ?
Also i am open to any other suggestions in the same price range...
Thanks in advance.

I own ZD8915 and can confirm that is clogging all the time due to long thin barrel. And when it clogs you need second iron to heat the thin end in order to unclog it.
I have got burns multiple times.
There is new improved version but problem is if you are ordering from net you will not be able to know which version you will get.
So my advice is to stay away from ZD8915 unless you can see yourself that you will get new improved version.

The clogging of the desoldering gun barrel is a false problem. To avoid this, just keep the trigger pressed for a few more seconds. Not only that, but it's also a very easy solution: just bring the temperature to the maximum and unclog it with the needles supplied. Lastly, all the tools must undergo maintenance. It is good practice to pass the needle through the barrel at the end of each work session and clean the suction pond tank and replace the filters when necessary. Nothing extraordinary. The device if well maintained has nothing to envy to much more expensive devices.
