Title: AD9551 Development Board
Post by: TeddyPython on March 19, 2020, 01:43:56 pm
I'm trying to get an AD9551 signal generator development board working with the AD9551/52 Evaluation software found here:

https://www.analog.com/en/design-center/evaluation-hardware-and-software/evaluation-boards-kits/EVAL-AD9551.html (https://www.analog.com/en/design-center/evaluation-hardware-and-software/evaluation-boards-kits/EVAL-AD9551.html)

I'm running win7 64bit, and discovered that there might be some issue controlling through USB with a 64 bit OS. I therefore downloaded the AD Evaluation Board Programmer to rewrite the EEPROM to allow for 64bit operation. I get a confirmation that my rewrites complete successfully as shown below:

But when I go back to the AD9551/52 Evaluation Software, it still cannot detect a board has been connected. This is despite the USB STATUS LED flashing, which should indicate it is working, as per the instructions on pgae 3 here:

https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/user-guides/UG-002.pdf (https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/user-guides/UG-002.pdf)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try to get this working?

Sometimes on 64 bit  you have to start your software in admin mode,  i'm on 64bit, and i play with serial terminals softwares, and some of them crashes if not in admin mode ??   The 64 bit kernel is sometime picky

Is your drivers correctly installed  for your cypress usb interface ?  no errors in device manager ? does your  vid / pid enumerate correctly ?

Thanks for the reply coromonadalix.

I tried opening the AD9551 software in admin mode, but still the same issues. Device manager seems to detect it fine, though after a couple of seconds I hear the "disconnect" sound play (though the device still remains on the device manager list). I'm 99% sure it it enumerates correctly as it reads back the correct number when I use the board programmer.
