Confused, RFM69H change frequency in software?

Hi All,

I'm a bit confused. Complete noob when it comes to RF. Looking at this IC (RFM69H), the datasheet explains it can run on 433, 868 and 915 Mhz.

--- Quote ---The RFM69H is a transceiver module capable of operation over a wide frequency range, including the 315,433,868 and 915MHz license-free ISM (Industry Scientific and Medical) frequency bands. All major RF communication parameters are programmable and most of them can be dynamically set.

Does this mean each part is designed specifically for a frequency rains? So a 433 <hz IC can not work on 858  MHz (looks like it)?

I'm asking since on the last page it gives different P/N:

--- Quote ---P/N: RFM69H-315S2
RFM69H module at 315MHz band, SMD Package
P/N: RFM69H-433S2
RFM69H module at 433MHz band, SMD Package
P/N: RFM69H-868S2
RFM69H module at 868MHz band, SMD Package
P/N: RFM69H-915S2
RFM69H module at 915MHz band, SMD PackageV
--- End quote ---

Thanks.

Looks like the chip is capable of operating on several bands but the modules will need to have  filtering on them and that will determine the frequency range so yes, the modules are band specific even if the chip isn't.
