their deaths from the roof of the foxcom building. They improved working conditions though there are suicide nets now.
Foxconn is a shithole. Period.
It pays more than most Chinese factories, sometimes double, but it's very depressive. The culture in Foxconn can drive people mad.
It has gang activities, it has underground gambling inside, and you share bedroom with 11 other people while the public toilet for a floor doesn't have even separators.
I shared bedroom with 3 roommates when I did my undergrad, and even with only 4 in a room, there is always one that never showers, one rubs his dick in front of the other 3, plus one listening to music with speakers.
Only the most desperate people work there -- lack of ability to do more intelligent works, and needs lots of money in no time -- those with family members needing money to go to hospital without insurance or savings, those with huge debts and with mafias hunting them, or those just want to work for a month and stay at home for a month.
Foxconn pays ~$300 per month as basic salary, and ~$300 for overtime for average workers, more if you want to work longer shifts. That's not bad in China for people with no degrees.
Put that into perspective, both my parents work for Chinese government, one in tax dept, one in health insurance dept, one as office worker with deputy rank, one as head of district bureau.
They both hold graduate degrees, and they make $1700 combined.
My cousin also works for my local tax bureau at the lowest level (fresh graduate), and she makes $350 per month.
$600 is indeed great in China for people without a degree, but not a lot can stay long in Foxconn. They usually make enough money to start their next career, and leave.
It is that depressive.
Also, many come to Foxconn with suicidal intent in the very beginning. Some want to scam money for their loved ones, some want an exit from debt collectors.
People don't go to Foxconn without a huge need of money in no time.
The only exception being students studying EMS and logistics or pursuing a technical degree having their summer intern for a month, or those wanting to spy on Apple's latest products.
I alwayWhen you say 300 Month do you mean $300USD eq, or do you mean 300 RNB?
Wow I always wanted to ask what it was like. Do they make you live in housing they own and is that the only housing around? Do they have stores where they sell things to you like a factory town then over charge, because its monopoly, allowing the monopoly to get their money back? How/where do you cook your food into little closet sticking the place up? I feel your pain: I got tricked/desperate and moved into Living at a bad place slightly smaller then your dorm, with Chinese peasant of the lost generation. They older sick hand no concept of clean at all mice and bug are all over the kitchen, That doesn't work well.
So why would you kill yourself instead of just finding another factory? Do they do that thing where they hold you in debit by charging rent? How does "you" working, scam family members?
So when you say get paid 300 that equal to 300 USB (I meant to say U$D but the internet is on my mind right now haha) or 300RNB?
I know workers don't build one phone from start to finish but how many could you build in three months for the cost of a new 900$ iPhone here? 300?3000? I hate buying apple after I was subjected to their antisucid mental half cure. 3000 would equal 10 cents labour thats fail. In america if got minwage to make that many iphones you would get paid $4.40 perfone. So paying labor of less then 5 bucks for a $900 phone was too costly? Thats greedy.
Do they make you work 15 hour days and physicall threaten you if you dont? Can you come and go where ever you like?
Are most of the people uneduvated and have criminal back grounds?
What are the hours like it?When punch a clock can you work more hours if you want? Or do they tell people come in/stay after the clock or do shut off to get caught up? How did you get out?
I had one of those jobs where you punched in and going 5 minutes realy would getyou and improbably them in trouble.
