congratulation from OZ2DA, Denmark, Europe.

regarding that it's now going to be expencive on gear. Well that depends on what you choose to do. Based on several parameters.
first of, can you live with 2nd hand equipment or does it have to be new. Do you need equipment wih all bells and whistles.
Your operation style, croc (large mouth and tiny ears) or go qrp (low power, more demanding operator wise)
Voice or digital modes.

Lots of ways to start, lot of different prices.

Figure out what frequencies are in use at your area and start up on that.

Congratulations!

You really don't need to spend much money... I obtained a full licence in the UK (because I thought it would would look better in court when my radio experiments started to get a bit out of hand!),

...  just out of curiosity I bought a second hand FT-890AT on EBAY from a nice guy in the US of A and hooked it up to a G5RV bit of wire in the garden.

On my first session got a QSO to down under!

I have promised myself I will get around to CW mode one day.

73s and have fun!

NW0LF, KK4BFN /AE...

This is funny... this guy lives near me! Small world!

Anyway... I thought I would post in here to say I just recently passed my Extra. Now it's time to start working on my CW skills.

Quickie... Does anyone have a service manual for a TS-570D (not the S or G model). I need the values for the caps in the built in tuner....

Greetings from Finland and Congratulations! I my self did only invest 300€ on used FT-100D and doing well with only it. Few homemade antennas there and there, works perfectly!
