Once a decade works for me, but you can easily find a pirate e-book of the current year and decide if it's worth buying.

I go to my local library, and they sometimes have the newest version available for me to check out.   :-+

- not much news there, but sometimes it is worth the walk if I need some specific info. Most tech stuff is google'able if you know what to search for. Beware though, not all sites are as informative - fakenews

Edit - added:
The newer versions seems to have included digital radio a lot more/better.

I have 1997 at work used mostly for formulas, etc. that don't really change. I'm not sure what I have downstairs but, to be honest, with the internet, there's really not a need, for me at least, to have a copy of the latest and greatest. Google is your friend if looking for info on a project.

I try for twice a decade, I have been buying up older ones.
I have...
1938
1943
1949
1950
1955
1961
1965
1972
1974
1980
1990
2010
For anybody who does boat anchors the old ones are a must have, along with at least one edition of Bill Orr's handbook. (the west coast handbook)

The only handbook I don't have that I really want is the 1915 Handbook.
I have a friend who maintains a complete set of handbooks.
The first one is interesting reading.
