is a tighetened APC-7 connector supposed to be able to twist?
« on: September 21, 2017, 09:52:29 pm »
I have something with two apc-7 connectors, so i got sma to apc7 adapters. One port is tight, and it wont move.

The other one is fully tightened, but its acting like a rotary joint. Is this a problem? Only under substantial pressure though. The other one is rock solid.

By substantially tighened, i mean it almost hurts my fingers. I did not rotate it more then like 1/8 of a turn when fully tightened.

I quite like this connector but this worries me a bit. Mechanically they look the same but I am not familiar with the mechanisms behavior.

Center contact might be maladjusted.
I cannot locate the instruction at the moment but I could look it up tomorrow.

It appsears I have somehow managed to improperly mate it. Now it is tight, if you rotate it it feels like there is some kind of antirotation element with a bit of slack (a few degrees) in either direction.

Annoying, since this is my directivity bridge, I guess I need to check the junction with another bridge just incase. The other one does not have that antirotation feel to it, its just super tight (finger tight).

I believe the term is 'play'.

I'm not sure what axis its rotating about, but the 'seal' looks good. Both joints do this to an extent, one does it a bit more.

Pennies on the dollar, so I should count my blessing I suppose.

Does spining freely count if it spins about 1 degree back and forth between being stuck (it might beless then 1 degree).

The simulation could be modeled by having one of those pannel mount devices that has a pin in it, so there is a hole under the bulkhead connector, and the hole is just a wee bit too large, so you can rotate it left and right based on the free space between the center pin and the pin hole (very not much).

It goes from free rocation to very gentle rocking with high friction.
