Odd CB amp construction
« on: January 29, 2023, 07:05:05 pm »
I saw this being done to one of these CB homebrew amps....

They have these 8 or 10 gauge wires running over the tops of the transformers into the collectors, and then into some ferrites that appear to form yet another transformer...
They call this some kind of "mod".
Supposedly it's the "eye mod" and its supposedly to get more power to the transistors instead of via the center tapped winding.
Whaaaaa?  :o

What am I missing? I can't even see how this works without oscillating and going boooooom...

Possibly an attempt at "shunt feeding" of the supply, but that would normally require a change of the whole architecture of the stage, to do it properly.

That is a balanced feed transformer, used so the supply current doesn't saturate the output transformer; as collector impedance is very low, you need surprinsingly little choking impedance.

Good resource, if you have the patience to read the whole thing:

Interesting. Thanks for the link. So far it's answered a few burning questions.
