YTO swap (5086-7903 -> 5086-7781)
« on: November 21, 2024, 07:01:13 pm »
My HP 8594E spectrum analyzer died - its the YIG Oscillator.
I want to swap its (dead) YTO 5086-7903 out for a different (alive) YTO I have 5086-7781.
Does anyone know of any notable differences between these devices that would be problematic , eg range, output power ?

I don't know the parts specifically, but are they otherwise unmarked?  A lot of yigs in analyzers are made by another company and have basic info and a more searchable part number in them.

In any case, I sort of doubt it, as there seem to be a lot of variations and different frequency plans even within similar instrument vintages or families - possible, sure, but unlikely.  That said, what's wrong with it?  Big power circuitry can fail and the amplifier on the output can fail and both can be fixed without replacing the yig.

It worked, and i don't see any (major) issues.

just wait until you run into a high frequency overload on the coil and end up in a mirror universe

I heard the dave jones with a goatee charges a registration fee
