Sunair RT 9000 and MD 9188

I have a working RT 9000 and am attempting to get the accompanying modem to work, I cannot get the modem to be recognized by the transceiver. I would like to try the system out on ALE but need the modem to work.
Does anyone have any experience with the Sunair 9188 modem? Perhaps there is an incompatibility with some program on the EPROMs??
Any help would be appreciated
