The RadioBoard (OT?)
« on: September 13, 2021, 05:31:16 pm »
Folks, it has been some time since I last visited "The Radio Board" forums (theradioboard.com) and I was surprised to see what seems to be some kinda/sorta parking page; anyone knows what happened ?

The board appears to be dead.

Its been quite dead for a long time, one post every two or three days.
This one is much more active and interesting   https://antiqueradios.com/forums/index.php

TRB (The RadioBoard) is (was ?) a low traffic forum, but full with good stuff and knowledgeable people hanging around, that's why from time to time I lurked there and enjoyed reading discussions about new project and other stuff, the two main "bosses" of the site are/were Dave Schmarder and Jim Kearman; but now the whole forum went "poof" and even if the web archive site (thanks for remining me vk3yedotcom) carries some stuff, a lot of discussions and posts are missing.

I just hope it's a matter of web site or domain transfer and/or cybersquatting (although the latter won't be so good) and not something worse  :(

RadioBoard is back. Or maybe it never went.

Try this link: http://r1rl8.skipdns.link/rb/index.php

Not exactly back

http://r1rl8.skipdns.link/rb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9953

in short, the domain name registration expired, so the DNS settings were changed to point to a "parking" page, the server hosting the board is still alive and carries all the stuff, but accessing the forum through the domain name doesn't work, the "skipdns" alias has been set up by one of the TRB members, but there's no info about if and when the domain could be renewed and reconfigured to point to the forum

[edit]

A trick to temporarily solve the issue w/o using the "skipdns" link is to add the IP address of TRB to the "hosts" file, in Linux/Unix the file is usually "/etc/hosts" while in windows it is "%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts", to open/modify it you will need to be to elevate your privileges (sudo or run as admin) and, in windows, to remove the readonly attribute from the file, done that just open it with an editor enter the following to the bottom of the hosts file

162.215.249.87   theradioboard.com

and save the file, that way a direct link like (e.g.) http://theradioboard.com/rb/ will work, again, it's just a temporary workaround, not a solution; the latter should be carried on by the folks running TRB

I think of the original owners one lost interest and unfortunately the other suffered a stroke, and although he continued for a while the hosting company pulled the plug for security reasons.

TheNewRadioBoard@groups.io is being run by a Gary Nicholls, an original member of The Radioboard.rb
Seems like there are about 60 members so far, content is nothing much of interest, shame though, it does show a multi-forum discussion site can be grafted onto the groups.io platform.

It seems to be a completely separate entity to the Wix site forum...
