VIRUS REMOVAL FROM WINDOWS
« on: June 30, 2024, 02:02:46 pm »
Hi there!!! I've received a Virus on my PC, and all it
does, is sits on the right bottom corner, saying my
Antivirus, is Out-Of-Date!!
It's only there if the PC is on the Net, otherwise, the
PC, works fine (whilst off the Net).
I checked Control Panel, and knew the name:ffd...
most likely the culprit, and removed it.But it keeps
on coming back to Program Files Directory!!
There's, no sign of it on the Downloads Register,
either.
What is the best way to remove it??
Tah, Simon

shutdown your computer and use another to create  bootable usb key or cd-rom,   a virus can be protected by windows and can not be easily removed   ...

emisoft emergency tool kit,  dr web antivirus on a bootable media,  and other

it could be some startup virus or anything else     you need to check  what is runned / executed at boot / start   ...

Warning, for some web browsers, like FireFox, there are javascript style pop-up window viruses you get from some websites which place a borderless window on your desktop claiming you anti-virus windows defender is out of date and/or it has detected a virus on your system.  Note that this is only a virus within your web-browser, not windows, that is until you accidentally click on it's message.

(Manual removal instructions)
If you weren't fooled and killed your web browser's task in time, the fix would be to un-install your web browser and then delete all it's hidden recovery files folder in your Documents & Settings / Application Data / web-browser's local storage for all users.  Then re-install your web browser.  There wont be any bookmarks to import as the local-storage cleaning purges absolutely everything.

Hope you have a backup of your bookmarks (Though, you can back them up now, but not the login passwords...) and password list.....

Good luck.

If you ever get a virus or toyan on your computer, the only reasonable thing to do is to format the system drive and reinstall Windows.

That's a bit drastic. I hope you don't suggest the same for people.

Rude of yours suggesting I would like to eliminate virus infected people.
 :-[

Why is it drastic? If you have a system partition, reinstalling Windows and applications should take a couple of hours. The result is a clean OS (not considering BIOS hacks).

How long does it take to "clean" the virus and how sure can you be, that the virus didn't download other malware?

Now consider using such a system to do banking, taxes and other confidential applications.

You can't remove virus from Windows, because virus is important part of Windows  :)

If talk seriously, you need to boot from bootable USB and wipe all data on all hard drives, then remove partition tables and reformat HDD, but even this cannot guarantee that virus will be wiped and not infect a new Windows installation.

How long does it take to "clean" the virus and how sure can you be, that the virus didn't download other malware?

Yeah, that's what happens when virus infects your system - it downloads thousands of other viruses and then they re-download each other if some of viruses will be wiped.
