A new "donated teardowns" idea..
« on: June 26, 2012, 11:06:20 am »
I've just finished watching the mobile phone camera teardown, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Dave - how about making "donated teardowns" a regular weekly thing? I know, for myself, I have a load of stuff that could prove interesting fodder for examination - surely I'm not the only one. Your mailman might not appreciate all the extra packages, but could make for good video..

Cheers from Alaska..

Well, one persons "interesting" is not necessarily anothers!
But yes, I'm happy to receive things for teardown, but can't guarantee that I will though.

Dave.

A data projector would make an interesting teardown. Lots of interesting optics, tiny motors, high voltage metal halide lamp driver etc.
Just need to find a stuffed one.

I have a really old data projector that has plug in cards and would be awesome to teardown, but it's still working and far to heavy to ship.
It's a meter long!

It's on its last legs though. I reset the lamp counter on the same lamp because a new one costs $4000!
So it will explode eventually.

Thats right, i did watch that a while back. :)

Mine is about the same size but not quite as advanced, and it's LCD.
It has a sort-of 5 module rack mount system running the entire length of the rear for various i/o cards which is quite interesting.
