I've just noticed that it's possible to create a thread, then lock or delete it, even if others have responded to it.

Perhaps this is a bad idea?

Someone could make a troll thread about someone else, then lock it giving them no chance to defend themselves. Or someone could create a free energy thread and delete it when they don't like the response.

I think this has the potential to cause trouble.

There are a lot of things that are fundamentally flawed in this forum software:
  • User experience should be based on karma, not post count.
  • Each post should be able to be rated - either digg style (dig/bury) or /. style with more options.
  • Option to ignore messages from certain users.
  • etc.

A lot of these things can be fixed by plug-ins/addons, but as far as I know, Dave is not into "computer geek stuff" :)
I'm waiting for SMF version 2, but I'm not holding my breath.
