Actually Broadcom has sued Netflix for patent infringement. The success of Netflix merely makes the court battle one worth fighting.

  This suit is about Broadcom trying to squeeze more money out of another company that has been highly successful in squeezing money out of consumers.  No sympathy for either one of them.

I once tried netflix (They do not deserve a capital).
Could not get it to work easily on my Linux Box, and within a week I got 4 spam mails from them. Then I deleted the netflix account information and the e-mail address I used to create that account.

I also do not use raspi's, because of their use of broadcom chips and their lax atitude to openness. For a complete reverse attitude, have a look at Olimex. They put the complete desings of their boards on github. Complete KiCad project. Schematics, layout, gerbers, etc, and they have been doing that for years (They used eagle before KiCad).

Comparing development boards to ASIC's is nonsense. Do not blame Broadcom that rPI developers chose chip w/o securing documentation first. They knew that it will be issue, that documentation is available only through NDA, yet designed product based on Broadcom chip anyway.

The last time I had cable, the picture didn't look good, maybe it was the set top box and most of the channels (especially the existing free ones) had on screen channel logos that I find that distracting but maybe that has changed.
