Attached jpg's wont open within Firefox
« on: July 05, 2013, 10:11:05 am »
Has something changed with the forumsetup ?
Sometime during the last10 days or so , my Linux (Mint14) based firefox. Lost the ability to ask if i want to save or display an attached jpg/gif/png on the eevblog forum.
Now i only get the option to save it to disk , and then i have browse to the saved file and open it.

During the same period my firefox has been upgraded to v22 , this might be the reason.
But on other websites i get to select "open with" if i click on an attached jpg image (url)

I have no problem with seeing the thumbnails , and if i click on the thumbnail it expands the image .. but cuts off the rightmost part so i still need to open the url to see the full image.

Does anyone experience the same issue (especially linux based FF users)

This is not a big issue , but it would be nice if someone could fix it  ;)

The net seems to indicate it has something to do with the way the url is defined ... The content xxx stuff , but i'm not a html guru.

Sounds like a firefox setting to me.

Check Edit -> Preferences -> Applications to see what the default actions for a jpg file is.

I get the image in a new tab when clicking on the image, but click on the filename it will always give the dialogue box. This is on FF20.0

.jpg isn't listed (as i suppoose it's handled internal)

.jpeg is in there ,but i don't seem to have an "add" .jpg/extension action , to force .jpg to use an external program

I noticed the same, it looks like it is missing the .jpg extension at all because when you save it to disk it has no extension.
Must be something with the forum software.
Keyboard error: Press F1 to continue.

Strange. I'm using FF with Ubuntu, and jpg attachments work for me.
I have an untweaked version of ff. I installed it and never changed a setting.
Ubuntu 12.04
Firefox 22.0

Test:

I uploaded this .jpg image, and it hows as a thumbnail by default.
Enlarges in place when I click on the image.
Asks if i want to open it with Image Viewer when I click the filename hyperlink.

I get a similar prompt, but I get two choices:
- open with Image Viewer
- Save
The strange thing is that I get exactly the same prompt as you when I click on *your* .png link. Computers are strange. Darn Penguin.

Just to wake up an old thread: I found the problem again with 2 attachments in the same thread. The first one only gives me the option to save the attachment (IE 10), the second one also gives the 'open' option. I have no idea what the difference is, they are both .png image files.

Anyone got an idea?

[edit] Chrome says that the first one is an unknown file type, the second one is ok. Firefox for some reason thinks that both are ok  :-//

The reason is that server sends the file with application/octetstream MIME type and browser does not know how to handle this kind of file. The correct MIME type should be image/jpeg.
