Title: Connecting CVCC supplies in parallel and series
Post by: saturation on June 12, 2014, 11:42:15 am
Connecting 2 constant current - constant voltage adjustable linear power supplies in series or parallel has been done for decades.  However, I read on threads some folks are not aware of the dynamics between the 2 channels when they are connected this way, particularly in parallel.

It would be good to review it because a supply capable of series-parallel connection with few restrictions, makes it far more flexible in one's lab than one that isn't.

You can show the flow of current from one channel to another, discuss how the regulator circuits respond and balance between themselves.  The effects of setting the voltage between both channels close together, slightly apart, and far apart, and the response of the circuit, and finally how to manually balance both channels to share the current load.

You can show first a single multiple output supply like the DP832 sharing two channels, then adding yet another model CV-CC supply as a third channel to further boost the current or voltage, and then even a 4th or more as you please.
