Suggestion: "Next page" button on forum
« on: April 18, 2013, 07:27:09 am »
Please,

Can we get a big fat "next page" button on the forums? That would make reading on a tablet so much simpler. Or make the page numbers something like 4x the current size. As it is, I can read the text just fine, but my finger covers at least three numbers...

Thank you!

I can't speak for him, but I never will. I hope the same goes for most people.

I have seen screenshots. Based on what I've seen, I can't see why I would pay money to make forums significantly harder to use.

It has its down sides, it wont render any html but that isn't such a big deal, you can long press the post of interest and select "open in browser". Its ok for a phone but I prefer the browser on my tablet. Pinch zoom, select the page you want and it goes back to default zoom on its own

Annoying, isn't it?

I will not purchase their product. I will not support their intrusive advertising. I will actively harm their public image until they fuck off and leave everyone alone.

Since the thread changes subject already: Based on screenshots, Tapatalk would be a big step backwards in usability for me: I can read headlines on a browser, 20 at a time. With tt, six or seven. That alone means three times as much scrolling as browser reading. The link to the first unread post is just perfect.

But a bigger "next page" would be nice.

Didn't know about this but thank you for the heads up. Never tired to surf the forum from the SG3. Thanks again for sparing me annoyance.

+1  :-+ also to their stupid & retarded "users" that keep spamming forums with that annoying message.

Just name it, I will join the move.  >:(

  • Why shouldn't we question everything?
    • It's not really a Blog

Even only reading the forum on a desktop machine, with big screen and mouse, I'd still like to see 'next page' and 'previous page' buttons at the bottom, same size as the 'Reply' button, etc.
It's fiddly having to so accurately select a tiny number, every damn time you want next page in a thread.

I can install any mod that is available here:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?
and that is compatible with the current forum version 2.04
If an option you want isn't there, then it ain't going to happen I'm afraid.

This might be a useful one to have. Shows a Banned status against posts from banned users.

Perhaps we need a new forum/board that deals with issues about the forum? It could include information to new users, acceptable behaviour, suggestions for change etc.
Apologies if one already exists.

I added a Next/Prev button, but it's the same size text as the numbers.
No, I have no idea how to modify the code to make it bigger.

The solution is likely a Theme that is optimised for mobiles/tablets.
Then every user could chose whatever theme they want to use.
I found these:

The second one seems to be an Android style rather that optimised for phone/tablet.
You're right about the 'next/previous' button, the code for sizing these seems to be in the theme and not in the main php stuff.

I have just paid for and added the SMF-Media theme.
Now when you use a tablet or phone it will automatically select this theme and use it.
Let me know what you think of it.
I don't think it affects Tapatalk for those that use that.
You can always opt out and use the full site with the button down the bottom.

I rather like it so far after a few minutes.
Can't see embedded youtube videos though.

Thank you! Even for my sausage fingers, those are good; the words are 2-3 the size of the numbers.

That works quite well, actually. Now, tell them to use your money to get embedded videos to work. ;)
