Review of cheap bench multimeters.
« on: February 18, 2016, 11:11:17 pm »
I think a review of cheap bench multimeters would be good.
I was browsing on some of the Chinese websites,Banggood etc
and noticed a few bench multimeters from a few manufacturers,Mastech etc.
Anyway just a thought.

PS Love your work Dave.

Why? I've never seen any anywhere and it is pretty pointless. The cheaper ones are just a handheld meter with 230V instead of batteries, the more expensive ones have worse specification than a decent Fluke 4 digit handheld. You get a bench meter for the specification, trust and the calibration label. You get none of those from china.
If you dont have the budget, just buy a used one.

Why ? Because I though it was a good idea.
It's not about the money.
Fluke 77 the first 4 digit I found on Google £289 +vat
Rigol DM3058E  £307+vat

Haven't read all the specs for either yet.
I've tried to buy older ones before but failed.
Perhaps that's because of the collectors.

btw The Fluke multimeters I owned many moons ago didn't last a long time because of the crappy LCD displays.

Dave's got a Siglent SDM 3055 lying about that's already been torn down. It would be interesting to see how he thinks it compares to the Rigol Bench Multimeters.
Already reviewed the Rigol Scopes and power supplies, so I guess the Rigol Multimeters are due a look.
